IoT routers

IoT routers

Match the modem, interfaces and management requirements to your deployment.

Discuss your requirements

IoT routers, explained

Choose the gateway around the equipment, location and connection.

An IoT router connects a local device network to a wider service, often using mobile connectivity. It can support remote equipment, a temporary location or an alternative internet route. The right unit depends on more than whether a SIM fits: radio compatibility, interfaces, installation conditions and management features all affect its suitability.

Radian can discuss router and gateway options alongside the SIM service and application. A small sensor installation, a camera site and a busy temporary office have different requirements. We help connect the hardware specification to the job, with a practical configuration and support plan rather than treating equipment and connectivity as unrelated purchases.

What it can do for your organisation

Practical benefits.
A clearer business fit.

01

A practical connection for the location

Explore suitable equipment for places where a fixed connection is unavailable or where mobile backup is needed. Review power, mounting, antenna placement and the surrounding network at the same time. This helps the unit fit the site instead of leaving installation decisions until after it arrives.

02

Interfaces around the application

The local equipment may need Ethernet, wireless access or another supported interface. Match the router to those connections and the traffic it must carry. Firewall, VPN, addressing and routing options can then be considered around how the application actually communicates.

03

A manageable device estate

Supported remote-management tools can help maintain visibility and coordinate configuration across deployed units. Establish device records, administrator access and the process for firmware changes. A consistent setup and a useful record of each installation make later support and replacement easier to organise.

Make an informed choice

The options and details
worth understanding.

01

Radio compatibility, antennas and placement

A router's modem must support the intended mobile technology and regional network arrangement. Antenna connections, type and placement also influence performance; mounting a capable unit where the signal is obstructed can undermine the design. Review the planned position and cabling with the equipment specifications, then test in the deployment environment rather than relying only on the modem's advertised maximum rate.

02

SIM slots, modems and alternative routes

Two SIM slots do not necessarily mean two independent active mobile connections. Some equipment switches the SIM used by a single modem, while other designs have different radio arrangements. WAN failover, SIM switching and traffic distribution serve different purposes. Confirm which behaviour the proposed hardware supports and how applications respond when the active route or address changes.

03

Management, security and lifecycle

The router may provide local firewall rules, VPN functions and supported remote-management access. These functions require appropriate configuration and ownership. Review firmware support, the maintenance process and how configuration is restored after replacement. Remote administration should use an agreed protected method; a public address alone is not a reason to leave management interfaces openly accessible.

How this can fit your world

From a service description
to a practical requirement.

Illustrative scenario

A camera at a remote business site

Review the camera's connection method, typical uploads and how authorised users will view or manage it. Match the router, SIM and addressing to that path. Check the physical installation and power arrangement, then test the required viewing and management functions from the intended location.

Illustrative scenario

A temporary office awaiting a fixed connection

Plan the number of users, local coverage and the applications people need while mobile access is in use. Equipment can be configured around that temporary role and, where suitable, a later backup role. Record the intended changes rather than assuming the initial configuration will automatically suit both jobs.

From planning to everyday use

Delivery with the details
thought through.

  1. 01

    Map the equipment

Identify local interfaces, application traffic and the service to which the router will connect. Gather the installation and power requirements.

  2. 02

    Select the hardware

Compare modem support, antennas, routing functions and management options. Confirm current model availability and support status before ordering.

  3. 03

    Configure and test

Prepare the agreed SIM, access controls and connection settings. Test representative traffic, remote access and any selected failover behaviour.

  4. 04

    Document and maintain

Record the unit, its configuration and the support route. Establish firmware and replacement arrangements appropriate to the deployment.

Your proposal confirms the available features, supported platforms and delivery responsibilities. Product availability and individual service commitments depend on the selected agreement.

Mobile & IoT overview →
Does an IoT router include the mobile subscription?

That depends on the proposal. The hardware, SIM service, management platform and installation can be separate items. We explain what is included so the equipment is supplied with a suitable operating arrangement.

Is a dual-SIM router always using both networks?

No. SIM slots and the number of active modems are different hardware characteristics. Review the specification and supported switching behaviour rather than treating dual-SIM as a promise of simultaneous mobile links.

Can we manage routers remotely?

Suitable remote-management or VPN options can be considered where supported. The chosen method should account for addressing, authentication and administrator permissions, with any platform subscription or management scope explained.

Will a 5G router always be faster than a 4G router?

The actual experience depends on local coverage, radio conditions, network demand and the application path. Choose equipment around the supported networks and measured requirements, not the radio label alone.

Can you help with existing deployed equipment?

We can review the model, software support status and current configuration alongside the application requirements. The outcome may be a configuration change, a different service arrangement or a planned replacement where the existing unit is unsuitable.

UK-wide service enquiries

IoT routers across the UK.

Router selection depends on the mobile service and installation environment. For each UK premises or remote site, check antenna placement, power, network interfaces, supported bands, security settings and remote-management requirements.

Based in Charlwood, we welcome enquiries nationwide, with a particular focus on Horley, Crawley, Gatwick, Surrey, Sussex and London. Delivery, availability and any site attendance are confirmed for your chosen service.
