Drones & UAVs

Explore suitable business data links around the requirements of a validated deployment.

Discuss your requirements

Drones & UAVs, explained

Separate the connectivity task from the aircraft's operating case.

Drones and remotely piloted aircraft can produce survey files, imagery, equipment status and other information that needs a route back to business systems. Mobile connectivity may be relevant to supported payload or ground-equipment workflows, but different traffic types have different bandwidth, delay and continuity requirements.

Radian can discuss the separately scoped connectivity component with the operator and the appropriate equipment specialists. A SIM or multi-network service does not establish permission to fly, validate a command-and-control link or make a flight safe. The useful starting point is a clearly defined data task and an understanding of which functions remain with the aircraft system and operator.

What it can do for your organisation

Practical benefits.
A clearer business fit.

01

A clearer data workflow

Identify which information needs to reach a remote team promptly and which can be stored for later transfer. Separating telemetry summaries, selected images and full survey files can make the communication requirement easier to understand and test.

02

A practical coverage assessment

Ground-level signal information should not be assumed to describe airborne performance. A scoped assessment needs the intended hardware, antenna arrangement and operating context. Network access and device behaviour should be reviewed with the specialists responsible for the system.

03

More focused operational ownership

Document the roles of the aircraft supplier, payload application, ground equipment, operator and mobile provider. Clear boundaries help avoid treating a business data connection as proof that a safety-related communication requirement has been satisfied.

Make an informed choice

The options and details
worth understanding.

01

Telemetry, payload and control are different

A small status message, a video feed and an aircraft-control function are not interchangeable requirements. Identify the purpose, destination and consequence of delay for each. The connectivity proposal should describe its actual role, while any control or safety-related function requires the appropriate specialist validation.

02

Store-and-forward and data volume

Where supported for the non-safety data task, local storage can allow larger material to be transferred after collection. A live preview may need different settings from the final high-quality dataset. Measure the selected workflow, including repeated or interrupted transfers, rather than assuming all captured data must be sent immediately.

03

Access, interfaces and ground equipment

Review how the payload or ground system connects to the modem and receiving application. Addressing, authentication, power and software ownership all matter. A private route or fixed address may serve an administration need, but does not on its own secure or validate the complete aircraft system.

Put the choices in context

How this can fit your world

From a service description
to a practical requirement.

Illustrative scenario

A survey team transferring collected datasets

The team wants to deliver files from a field location without returning to the office. The discussion can focus on ground-based upload equipment, file sizes and the receiving system. This is distinct from providing or validating the aircraft's flight-control communications.

Illustrative scenario

An inspection project with a remote review team

Specialists may wish to examine selected non-safety payload information during a planned activity. The system owners can establish the required quality, delay tolerance and fallback process, with the mobile service considered only within its agreed role.

From planning to everyday use

Delivery with the details
thought through.

  1. 01

    Bound the use case

Describe the data task and identify any aircraft-control or safety dependencies. Establish the responsible operator and equipment specialists.

  2. 02

    Review equipment and access

Check the supported modem interfaces, power and receiving system. Define the operating context and the parts included in the connectivity scope.

  3. 03

    Validate the intended task

Arrange appropriate testing through the responsible specialists. Measure the data workflow and document what happens when the connection is unavailable.

  4. 04

    Maintain clear responsibilities

Keep configuration, hardware changes and service records aligned. Revisit the scope when the application or operating arrangement changes.

Your proposal confirms the available features, supported platforms and delivery responsibilities. Product availability and individual service commitments depend on the selected agreement.

Have a question specific to your setup? Tell us about the systems, users and locations involved.

IoT use cases overview →
Does a mobile SIM make beyond-visual-line-of-sight operation permissible?

No. Connectivity does not provide an operating authorisation or validate the overall aircraft system. The operator must establish the applicable requirements through the appropriate aviation arrangements.

Can you guarantee uninterrupted airborne coverage?

No blanket claim should be made. The intended equipment and operating context need specialist assessment, and the service scope must distinguish the connectivity component from flight-safety requirements.

Can mobile access be used to upload files from the ground?

It can be explored as a separately defined business data task. Share the locations, equipment, file sizes and receiving system so suitable options can be reviewed.

Is live video the same as sending survey files?

No. Live viewing has an ongoing timing and throughput requirement, while stored files may be transferable later. Their priorities and interruption behaviour should be specified separately.

Can a fixed IP or private APN secure the whole operation?

It addresses only part of the communication design. Device security, authentication, application access and the validated aircraft system remain separate responsibilities.

UK-wide service enquiries

Drones & UAVs across the UK.

Describe the application, operating locations and connectivity role before selecting a SIM or router. Communications planning does not replace aviation permissions, operational risk assessments or the requirements applicable to the aircraft and operator.

Based in Charlwood, we welcome enquiries nationwide, with a particular focus on Horley, Crawley, Gatwick, Surrey, Sussex and London. Delivery, availability and any site attendance are confirmed for your chosen service.
